In order to be able to cool the freshly hot rolled strip more efficiently after the rolling process, NLMK La Louvière, a leading strip products manufacturer in Europe, has opted to install a larger laminar cooling tank. It concerns a tank that hangs lengthwise from the hot rolling mill at a height of 10m above ground level and that allows gravity water to flow over the freshly rolled strip.
The tank has a diameter of 2.3m and a length of 78m and is therefore difficult to maneuver in the existing structure, as it must be placed inside a building. After weighing up various options, the choice was made to build it in various pieces and then hoist and weld everything together on site.
